Making Money With Your Old Machinery: What Scrap Metal Merchants Can Do For You

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]So you’ve got an old lawnmower lying around that you don’t know what to do with, or a broken fridge that you’re not sure how to dispose of. Perhaps you’re thinking of taking it to a local dump?

What if we told you there was a better way? [/vc_column_text][us_separator][vc_column_text]

Make Money From Scrap Metal In The London Area

Did you know that you can actually make money from scrap metal?

Heathrow industrial recycling is one of the biggest scrap metal recycling plants in London and over the years we’re proud to say we’ve built up a reputation for being reliable and easy to work with. Furthermore, we’ll buy any metal you have for a reasonable price.

Ferrous or non-ferrous, we’ll dispose of and recycle it in a legal and responsible manner. As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll even do collection if you live in the local area.

No job is too big or too small

From construction site disposal to old washing machines, we’ll take any scrap metal off your hands and we’ll even pay you for the pleasure of doing it. We can also dispose of non-metal Scrap and hazardous waste. If you’ve got a derelict site that needs clearing, we’ll take care of it.

As a matter of fact, we even specialise in site clearance. We have plenty of heavy lifting equipment and we’ll get the work done quickly with no hassle on your end.

Got a large site full of scrap you don’t know what to do with? No problem! Just give us a ring and we’ll have it sorted for you. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at some of our more recent 3 projects.

The Importance Of Recycling Your Waste

Of course, making sure to properly dispose of your waste is more than just a way to make a little extra money. Not only is recycling an important part of the fight to save our planet and protect the environment, but it also prevents potentially hazardous chemicals from coming into contact with people.

When you dump old machinery, some of the metals can break down into chemicals that can be harmful both to animals and people. Furthermore, fly-tipping is a crime and anyone caught doing it can be subject to serious fines or even prison time.

HIR Meet Your Scrap Metal Merchant Needs

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]HIR Scrap Metal Merchant

If you’re currently or have ever been involved with a commercial or industrial strip out or demolition project, you will know the amount of material that can come from a space.

Metal is one of the most common elements in any building, so when it comes to clearing one out, this can quickly build up and need removing.

Once you have all the scrap metal from your project in one place, you can be left in a bit of a quandary as to what to do next. Fortunately, that’s where HIR can help.

HIR has years of experience in the purchasing, collection and removal of scrap metal. We have an excellent scrap metal facility at our base in Shepperton, and are willing and able to come to locations across the Greater London, Surrey and Middlesex areas to collect your scrap metal.[/vc_column_text][us_separator][vc_column_text]Great Scrap Metal Options

What constitutes scrap metal can be wide-spanning, and at HIR, we are able to deal with practically all items. Whether it’s air conditioning units, factory machines or catering equipment, whatever you have from a scrap metal perspective, we’d be delighted to discuss what we can do for you.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking we won’t be able to deal with the scrap metal load your project contains. We can recycle ferrous and non-ferrous metals of all shapes and sizes. That means that whether your project involves relatively modern metals and equipment, or derelict plant machinery, pallet racking or shelving, we have the capabilities to get the job done.

Equally, when a company’s commercial vehicles reach ‘end of fleet’, we can take these away and make things easier for you.

All those nitty-gritty pieces of metal that emerge during certain work, including wires, cabling, pipework and other metalwork, can be easily removed by our team of experienced workers.

We have 20 and 40-yard skips that we can take to your site, fill with your scrap metal and take away; or simply arrive with a truck, load it and drive away while also reimbursing you for the price of the scrap. It truly is a win-win situation.

If you are keen to discuss your project and scrap metal options with our team, don’t delay! Call us about our scrap metal collection on London 0208 1661 221 or Surrey 01932 450 968. Alternatively, drop us an email at info@hirltd.co.uk

How is Scrap Metal Recycled?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There are two different types of scrap metal: ferrous and non-ferrous. Non-ferrous metals (such as copper, aluminium, gold, silver and zinc) can be recycled again and again as they won’t lose their chemical properties during the recycling process, making them extremely valuable. Ferrous metals are more common and include anything made of either steel or iron.

Once the scrap metal reaches the yard – the process of actually recycyling is where it gets intersting:[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Sorting” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Firstly, metals are separated from non-metal materials from the load and then the ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals are separated with the use of machinery, magnets and electrical currents. Then the metals are sorted by type by looking at their colour and weight. Lastly, the metals are sorted by cleanliness and ensuring they do not cross-contaminate each other any further.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Processing” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]This part of the process involves compacting the metal together and then cutting them into smaller pieces using hydraulic machinery. Then, it is shredded into even smaller pieces so it’s ready for the next step in the process.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Melting” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Now we have the smaller pieces, we are ready for the melting phase. This is done in a large furnace which is configured for each particular metal type as each type requires different levels of heat. Depending on the size of the metal and furnace, the process can take anywhere between minutes to hours. While this process does involve using energy, it is far less than needed to mine new metals.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Purification” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]As the metal is melted, impurities rise to the surface, and these can then be separated and removed – leaving only the pure metal. One method of purification is electrolysis where an electric current is passed through the metal and the pure metal is deposited at the cathode while the impure ones are dissolved. The impure metal is an anode and the pure metal is a cathode. The soluble salt from the metal is an electrolyte. These impurities collect below the anode.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Solidifying” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]The final step in the scrap metal recycling process is where the raw molten material is turned into the finished product. The melted metals are put through a conveyor belt that takes them into a cooling chamber which solidifies them. Some metals are melted into sheets while others compacted into shapes or blocks using moulds.[/vc_column_text][us_message css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”]If you would like to know more about our Scrap Metal Recycling service or any other service then give us a call on 0208 166 1221 or 01923 450 968 (Surrey). Where To Find Scrap Metal

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]People these days are more inclined to recycle items that they no longer need as opposed to just thrown them away. This has led to a boost in the number of scrap businesses because they become very lucrative if run properly best practices followed in order to avoid the penalties of scrap metal misconduct.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”WHERE TO FIND SCRAP METAL” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_custom_heading text=”Skips and Dumpsters” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Skips and dumpsters can be a gold mine for scrap metal. Most Commonly Recycled Metals

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Scrap metal recycling helps reduce the need for future mining of recyclable metals and preserve our natural resources.  There are any many other reasons why to scrap but another major factor is the financial gain in doing so.

There are two types of metals: ferrous and non-ferrous. Ferrous metals are those which are primarily composed of iron such as steel, cast iron etc and are generally cheaper in value due to how common they are. Non-ferrous metals are those that are greatly resistant to corrosion such as copper, brass aluminium etc[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”IRON” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Iron is one of the most recycled metals on the planet and it’s the most abundant metal on Earth. It is largely considered as the most important metal as it’s the key ingredient in steel. 90% of all metal refined is iron.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”STEEL” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Steel (along with iron) is the most recycled metal due to its strong and durable nature and is 100% recyclable. It retains all of its properties after being recycled. Recycling steel is considered very simple because low-value steel can be recycled into high-value products and removing its impurities is very easy.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”COPPER” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Copper is in high demand at scrap yards and is one of the most financially rewarding.  Selling copper wires and pipes can be very lucrative.  Copper is significantly durable and resistant to high temperatures and is a a great conductor of electricity.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”ALUMINIUM” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Aluminium is without doubt the most common type of non-ferrous metal. It’s easily melted down and can be reused indefinitely making it environmentally friendly. It requires 95% less energy than producing new aluminium from ore. It can be found everywhere from outdoor furniture to exercise equipment. It’s the third most abundant element on Earth.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”BRASS” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text]Brass is an alloy meaning it is comprised of other metals. It is less popular and not as widely available as the other metals listed above when it comes to recycling but is very common in most households. It is much more cost effective to recycle brass than to create it.[/vc_column_text][us_message css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D”]If you would like to know more about our Scrap Metal Recycling service or any other service then give us a call on 0208 166 1221 or 01923 450 968 (Surrey).
